Negative experience: I recently received an email from Modern Medicine reminding me that it’s been a little over a month since my last visit - an automated nudge, I assume, that often doubles as a prompt for a review. So, here we go. I visited Modern Medicine (Dr. Tamanna) a few months ago due to running-related injuries. During my initial consultation, the practitioner quickly recommended custom orthotics. Trusting the recommendation, I went ahead with it, hoping this would be the solution to my pain. The orthotics cost around $800 and included some treadmill assessments. However, the actual foot scanner wasn’t working at the time, so some measurements were taken via her phone instead. Orthotics were prepared just in time for the Ballarat Marathon. I’ll admit the pain initially subsided somewhat—but it didn’t go away completely. In fact, as my running volume increased, the pain returned. I actually reduced my running during the assessment period just to manage through the process. After a couple of follow-up sessions and orthotics adjustments, the pain simply shifted from one leg to the other—or from one area of the leg to another. Eventually, I decided to take a different approach: I invested in a good pair of stability running shoes and started doing knee-strengthening exercises recommended by physical therapists I follow on Instagram. And guess what? The pain is now completely gone. So here I am, with $1,000 worth of custom orthotics gathering dust—an expensive reminder of an underwhelming experience with someone labeled an “expert.”

I came in with very painful ingrown toenails and left with no more pain. Even when your were attending to them, I was pretty surprised that I had no extra pain. Thank you for making my experience a painless and positive one.

Positive experience: Visited the podiatrist (Tammanna) to get toenails trimmed, dry skin removed from feet, and to discuss options for relieving discomfort for a plantar fasciitis. Plantar fasciitis condition was covered very well, although she didn’t exactly advise what particular stretch could be done to stretch calf muscles to assist with compliant. With regard to toenails, they were trimmed and burred down with tool, but after two nights I had to use an emery board to remove the sharp edges on several toenails as they were catching on the bed sheets. The skin on my heels must still be ruff in places, because i can feel and hear them catching on the carpet (sounds like pulling Velcro apart).

Value for money. I highly recommend this super Fantabulous practice. I am 80% pain free in months and slept great too. First time patients who book online, may receive a discount. Negative experience: I needed to change an appointment time so rang. Waited a short time and told to leave a message and they would call back. I left a message asking to change an appointment from a to b. They called back but I was in an appointment. I had a voicemail to say to call them back. I called back, same thing, leave a message and we will get back to you. Ridiculous. I left a message to cancel the appointment. Then I get another phone call asking me what I would like to do. I asked if they had listened to my messages and she said she did but preferred to talk to someone. I said why not just change the appointment then leave me a message with the new appointment time and if there were any queries to call back. So much easier. Oh no, I was then told she didn't need to be spoken to like that. There were no raised voices, but I did call her out on her organisation. Disappointing, given that Maitree (podiatrist) was excellent.

Fantastic experience: I have a condition which causes pain in my joints from inflammation (all of them) and up until 3 months ago I had been virtually couch bound for 2 yrs at age 55. Not ideal. I've done physio and really didn't think I got a lot of bang for my bucks so disengaged. I've just moved house so have been forced to become active despite very strong pain and I wanted to maintain this recent momentum. I wanted to try an exercise physiologist. Googled my new local area, found the best one: Mitch Murray. He listened to everything I had to say. So helpful and open. A wonderful young man. Fun to interact with and made me feel so at ease about all my issues. Amazing software and app that includes videos of all exercises, a long term plan, a WRITTEN letter of introduction to an excellent GP in my new town, discussion about how to get a care plan for subsidized future appointments and even suggesting an NDIS application down the track. To be honest I'm emotional writing this as it's the 1st time a health professional has been interested in helping me reduce my pain. I was so impressed I spotted an opening in his appointments for tomorrow's hydrotherapy and I'm booked in to start at 9am. Thank you Mitch. Update to yesterday: excellent experience with Mitch for hydrotherapy at the Aquatic Centre. All of my exercises have been sent to my app so I can continue my program at pool entry cost. Pool was perfectly warm, clean and friendly staff and patrons.
