Our university-qualified Sports Scientists are here to help offering individualised hybrid personal training with 50+ 60-minute session running each week from Monday to Saturdays. This is not a typical group class. You'll train alongside 1-3 other people with each member following their individualised program which is reviews and progressed every 4-5 weeks.
We believe in (and the research supports) long term sustainable habit change over quick fixes and intense challenges. We understand that each person is different. This is why no session or program is the same.

Fantastic experience: It's been almost a year since I started at State of Fitness and I have absolutely no regrets. This was my first ever experience at a gym so there was a definitely a bit of intimidation going in. Thankfully Dylan and the team have been very understanding and tailored the 1 on 1 sessions and ongoing program to my level. The team puts great focus on to form and safety, so I've been able to move quickly up in strength without any injuries. The progress has been so satisfying I very quickly went from going in once a week to 'slowly build a habit' to going in 4 days a week. The community at the gym is also fantastic, and everybody is incredibly friendly and there are no cliche gym-egos. Unfortunately for me, a few members greet me by name and I have no idea who they are and I think it's too late to ask. If you're reading this review and thinking of joining, I would highly encourage it and please pretend you're hard of hearing and ask people to introduce themselves loudly thanks. edit: July-25, added progress photo. Andy, this absolutely made our day—thank you for such a generous (and hilarious) review. It’s been awesome having you as part of the SOF crew, and seeing you go from “slowly building the habit” to training four days a week is seriously impressive.
We’re really glad your first experience at a gym has been such a positive one. That early intimidation is completely normal—and honestly, one of my biggest pet peeves about the fitness industry. It means a lot to know we’re creating a space that feels different from the typical gym environment.
Also, you make a very good point on the name front. To help you out, we might need to introduce a “Name Tag Tuesday” policy! Appreciate you being such a valued part of the community, and for always bringing both effort and a good laugh through the door.

Fantastic experience: I moved to State of Fitness after many years training with an individual PT at a regular gym. My goal was to maintain and build strength through a more structured, data-driven approach, but just as importantly, to avoid injuries, which had been an issue for me in the past. From the outset, Dylan took the time to listen and designed a personalised program that challenged me without feeling unsafe or intimidating. The program continues to evolve based on my needs and focus areas. There’s a genuine, welcoming vibe at the studio that feels natural, not forced. The trainers take the time to get to know you, encouraging and monitoring your progress to make sure you’re improving while staying safe and supported. Dylan, as the owner, is thoughtful and open to feedback. It’s clear a lot of care has gone into designing how everything is run, which isn’t always the case elsewhere. He has also curated a fantastic team. Dylan, Alwyn, Alessandro, Scott and Ruby are all knowledgeable, caring, professional, and easy to work with. Each brings a different strength, which keeps the sessions interesting and varied. The app makes it easy to track workouts and monitor progress, helping you stay consistent whether training at the studio or doing extra sessions on your own. Negative experience: My experience with this company has been extremely disappointing. Initially, I had a positive conversation with the owner, Dylan, who appeared attentive to my injuries, health requirements, and goals. Although I expressed a preference for online training, I felt pressured to opt for a combination of online and face-to-face sessions. The first face-to-face session was with a trainer unfamiliar with my profile, which raised several red flags. To make amends, Dylan personally trained me for the next two sessions, but unfortunately, my online comments went unaddressed, critical tweaks were overlooked, and there were significant gaps in the training process. When I faced a health issue that required me to miss sessions, the company decided to completely remove my Saturday online slot. While being forced into solely online training should have been easier, my contract was not honored; I didn’t receive the program changes I requested, and the app was poorly managed, lacking necessary details regarding reps and weights. After finally making some progress last week, Dylan promised updates that never materialized. When I followed up two weeks later, I was informed he was on vacation, and it wasn't until a colleague stepped in that I saw any action 48 hours later. Just two days afterward, I was informed that my online coaching would be terminated, and I would receive a list of recommended coaches, leaving me with no guidance on how to proceed. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend this company, regardless of the positive reviews.

I used to view negative feedback as something to avoid, but over time I’ve come to see it as a valuable part of improving what we do, and protecting the culture we’ve built at State of Fitness.
As a private appointment-only studio, the atmosphere and interactions between our members are special. We’re fortunate to have a community of people on a similar wavelength—committed to growth in a welcoming environment. Because of the natural connections that are fostered in the gym, it’s essential that from a leadership level, we ensure new members are the right cultural fit.
In your case, I overlooked this critical point, driven by my natural urge to help.
We now clearly understand that we’re not the right fit for everyone, and we’ve improved how we manage new enquiries to ensure we’re preserving what makes our studio so special (our people) while digging in and focusing on delivering our impactful face-to-face personal training sessions.
I’m sorry that your experience with us didn’t match your expectations; it was never the intent. But it’s helped us improve how we operate, and for that, I genuinely thank you.

Fantastic experience: I train three times a week with one to one training at State of Fitness and have been achieving amazing results. The service, facility and team are all excellent. Dylan runs an outstanding business and has built a team of dedicated, enthusiastic and highly skilled trainers. Alessandro is particularly great to train with, always bringing a fun and energetic approach to sessions, and the rest of the team are just as exceptional. The facilities are top notch, the studio is well lit and fresh, all the machines are up to date, and it’s clear that Dylan takes great pride in his business, regularly investing in it to make it the best it can be. Fantastic experience: I really cannot recommend State of Fitness enough. I have spent 15+ years seeing different PTs and generally been disappointed. However coming to State of Fitness for the last few years has changed my life. Alessandro is an incredible PT. His enthusiasm is infectious and his knowledge and attention to detail is second to none. Unlike other PTs he really listens and plans for whats best for me as an individual. Having also worked with the other trainers at SOF, I know that they all have the same philosophy. For that, credit goes to the owner Dylan who has created an incredible space to train.

Fantastic experience: I have been training at State of Fitness for over 2 years. Fantastic experience: The best fitness and personal trainer team in Melbourne. They are very knowledgeable and professional. Fantastic experience: Lovely boutique studio with the friendliest crew of trainers , led by Dylan. These guys are seriously the best- professional, supportive, highly skilled and fun! They’ll work with you to modify plans for any fitness / confidence levels and be your coach, cheerleader and friend along the way. Plenty of options ranging from 1:1 PT to group based sessions. Fantastic experience: Just over two months into my training at State of Fitness and I couldn’t be happier. Feeling stronger, looking better, I have more energy and I’m actually sticking to my plan! Fantastic experience: One year on and Im feeling healthier, happier, stronger and fitter than I've ever been thanks to the State of Fitness Team. After two pregnancies, two years in lockdown and a roster of bad eating (and drinking habits), I decided enough was enough and it was time to dive into working on ME again. Its been just over one year and I'm finally feeling myself again - 30kg down - I've reset, and I've made some lifelong friends along the way. Other than the obvious weight loss, my mental clarity and overall wellbeing and mental health has been the best its ever been. My body doesn't ache anymore, I no longer have a once-a-year "I've pulled my back out" scenario and all of my trainers at State of Fitness have made me feel supported at all stages of my journey, ensuring that "gym injuries" were absolutely a thing of the past. If anyone is wanting to get fit and maybe feels self-conscious or unsure - this team is really the best. Its a JOY to go to training, not just for the trainers (and exercise) but the wonderful State of Fitness community that you're introduced to too!

Fantastic experience: Whilst staying with family in Melbourne (who are members of SOF) we became temporary members for a month. We train regularly in London so wanted to continue with our normal exercise routine. The ethos at SOF was very similar to our gym in London. Dylan and his great team were welcoming from the start, assessing our fitness & ability and tailored a program for us. A mixture of strength training and cardio. With their friendly positive teaching they made every session fun… yes you can have fun whilst working hard if you have the right trainers who are confident in their knowledge & have the ability to get the best out of you with lots of encouragement. We will definitely train with SOF when we are back in Melbourne.

Fantastic experience: I have trained with Dylan on and off for nearly 3 years now (and Scotty a few times). His passion, knowledge and caring nature is second to none. He has helped my body to recover from chronic pains and injuries in ways that I thought weren't possible. From getting me out of rehab to making me physically more aware and stronger - there's nothing that SOF can't do! What I love about SOF is not only their care for their clients but the time and effort they put into making sure you get the best tailored program to meet your needs. Fantastic experience: I've used a variety of different gyms and personal trainers in the past, but I've never received the level of individual care and attention that I do since I started training with State of Fitness. Dylan and his team are both knowledgeable and enthusiastic about what they do, which makes working out a pleasure, not a chore. The studio itself is a pleasant space to be in: always clean, with a boutique feel, but still big enough to have all the equipment you are ever likely to need.

Fantastic experience: Dylan and Scott, at State of Fitness, have an absolute wealth of knowledge from rehab, to general movement and fitness to hardcore training. They take the time to understand where you and your body are at and what you want to achieve, then tailor a program to suit. They support you to achieve your goals in a safe, injury free and sustainable way. I had shoulder and neck issues for decades - with weekly visits to chiropractors, Osteo’s and trying whatever treatment to relieve the pain. I no longer need any treatment. I never thought this would be possible. My training is now just a way of life. It continues to evolve and change depending on what I am dealing with and my goals too. I highly recommend the State of Fitness team.

Fantastic experience: I started training at State of Fitness in November 2020 with a focus of becoming stronger, and to look much healthier and leaner. Without any clues who the trainers were, Dylan had stepped in to assess my goals and later on organised the suitable program for my fitness needs, and eventually brought Scott over to pilot my first training. Since then, working out with them has been constant, and the result that I am getting is far beyond my first expectations. I have become much stronger, and have obtained confidence in terms of my overall posture. In fact, people come to me these days expressing how surprised they are with how I manage to work out more intensely each week, and it is indeed complimenting. Dylan’s, and Scott’s combined knowledge is the best tool this gym can offer, but what struck me the most, and what fuelled me to keep going is their ability to connect with people easily. They are beyond friendly, and the amount of support they would give you is stratospherically unbelievable, they possess patience which makes them the best coaches anybody could ever work with. Therefore, I would utter their names in a heartbeat for recommendations.

Saying this industry is saturated is the understatment of the century, but the team Dylan has managed to assemble here is world class, and they have flawlessly paired their expertise with equally top-tier professionalism. Fantastic experience: I’ve been training with Scott and Dylan for 1.5 years now. After the first 3 months I could see my fitness goal coming in close. I was stronger looked leaner and felt fit and amazing. Now that I am pregnant I feel confident I can carry a baby around and still feel strong. Fantastic experience: After suffering from neck pain, headaches and migraines for 10 years I had seen many different health professionals including physio's, myo's, oesteo's etc. I started training with Dylan a year ago in the hope that building some strength would alleviate some pain. Dylan was extremely warm, welcoming and encouraging. After a few sessions of training my headaches had decreased in frequency and my neck pain improved. Strength training has been the key to keeping the headaches and pain at bay. I keep training with Dylan every couple of weeks to keep my strength up. I would 100% recommend anyone and everyone to Dylan & State of Fitness, especially those suffering from chronic pain.
