Negative experience: Failed completely: I booked an appointment yesterday and went to the practice ahead of time today. The practice was closed presumably because of the cyclone which is expected to land in about 36-48h after the appointment. I had one missed phone call from a number I did not recognize, no voicemail, no text, no email. I just needed a checkup for my severe flu symptoms - they do not care.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused. Our clinic was closed to visiting patients on the 6th and 7th of March due to cyclone risks, and some of our staff were affected by the weather conditions. We made every effort to inform the public about this closure through all available communication channels, including our website, Health Engine, and Google. However, we remained open for telehealth appointments and ensured our phone line was available for urgent script requests and to direct patients to urgent care clinics.

Health Engine was specifically used for telehealth bookings, and it appears you may have mistakenly booked your appointment through Heartening, even while the closure notice was published. You should have received a notice stating that we were only offering telehealth consultations for existing patients during these two days.

Once we noticed your booking as a new patient (which we do not typically offer for telehealth consultations), we attempted to contact you immediately after seeing your online appointment. We called you at 4:25 PM on the 5th of March, just after you made the booking at 4:21 PM, and again at 8:23 AM on the 6th of March. Both times, we left messages informing you that the clinic was closed and provided instructions for contacting us to direct you to a Medicare urgent care clinic. Our phone system remained open all day on the 6th of March and until 12:00 PM on the 7th of March to assist patients with urgent needs. Unfortunately, we did not receive a response to our calls or messages.

We apologize again for the confusion and appreciate your understanding. If you require further assistance, please don't hesitate to contact us.

Positive experience: - misdiagnosis of shingles, diagnosed with outer ear infection after a week of pain went back only to be told I had shingles - After being given a referral letter I checked it and told the doctor the medication was incorrect instead of reprinting he just crossed out the incorrect information - after making an appointment for a procedure with the doctor standing in front of me I was informed less than 24 hours later that the doctor was no longer doing procedures with no wxplanation

Negative experience: The worst experience ever, I waited for 1 hour and the reception response was, there many other clinics nearby you can go there. I mean how can you be so cold. The walking are allowed but prebooked appointments are of no use. And if you come late, they say you missed your appointment. It's getting worst day by day.

Fantastic experience: Ashgrove General Practice has been my doctors of choice since the early 90's, and since I attend regularly due to ongoing skin cancer issues, and now age related problems, I regard Dr. Tennakoon and Dr. Parera more friends than just health care professionals. And I am confident they have literally saved my life a number of times. Their care, assistance and open friendliness instill in me every confidence, and so never hesitate to discuss any issues I may have. I have a lifelong history of physiology studies, so have a full understanding of all the procedures relevant. I recommend them from a personable, supportive and friendly perspective happily. I have since retired and now live in Tweed Heads, but I make the drive to Ashgrove willingly, because I am in the best of care. Stephen Hunter

Fantastic experience: Doctors and nurses here are very nice and helpful. My daughter has fever and we went to children hospital and they did nothing and sent us home. Then we went to this clinic and doctor help us to found out the problem that my daughter has bacteria pneumonia and started the treatment, save my daughter life.

Negative experience: The worst experience from a doctor I have ever had. I went in to get help when I needed it. I was polite and calm as the reception made me wait 20 minutes after my appointment time, to give me a new patient form to fill out. Once I had filled it in. Dr Chandrasena Tennakoon called me in to his office. I handed him the new information form and he responded with "This is supposed to go to reception". Then he turned to the computer and said, "We don't have a file for you, so I'm going to go see another patient before you". I was shocked and responded calmly with "but I've waited 20 mins and more and I only got the new information form 5 mins ago". He arced up and said "Are you complaining already?". I said, "No I'm just explaining how things happened". He started to get defensive and said, "The reception is very busy, she's not sitting on Facebook all day" I couldn't believe how rude he was being. I said "That's irrelevant, I'm just giving you feedback that maybe you should of checked you had a file, with the receptionist before you brought a patient in". He started saying, "I'm not going to help you, you're already complaining" I was so surprised, I stood up and went to walk out of the office, and turned and said, "Wow, you're a real misogynist, you've been rude since I walked in here". He started responding like a child and said "You started it!" He then went to follow me out the door into the waiting room ranting and shouting at me that he didn't need clients like me and he was supposed to help! I turned and told him how unprofessional it was that he was shouting at me infront of his whole waiting room. I am absolutely disgusted and shocked at how I've been treated. Dr Chandrasena Tennakoon Is a disgrace to the medical and health system. He shouldn't be allowed to be a doctor with such a fragile ego and misogynist attitude. This doctor should be written off. It is even more disappointing that the practise carry on letting him serve patients with all the negative complaints he's had. Do not go to this surgery!

Positive experience: My experience with Dr Tennakoon is great. He took his time to get to know me and my million and one issues. He has reffered me to specialists and delt with them as per the specialists recommendations. People think that as he does bulk bill that they can bully him.He does not prescribe S8 and addictive drugs. He is being condemned for not giving patients what they demand. A lot from drug addicts who think that Drs should not take break to refresh themselves,( going to the toilet) Once I had to wait for one hour for my appointment, I asked why. He replied I deal with people. When they are sick it takes them longer to tell me what is wrong and longer to understand what needs to be done. I admire him for that. There are drs who have told their reception staff to book ^6 patients per hr. They donot take the time to get to know the patients issues properly thus the patients keep coming back every second day. Since I have been with Dr Tennakoon I hardly ever see him. He has brought my issues under control and am thankful that he bulk bills. I would not be where Iam now without his help. He does not make me feel like a burden but is gentle with his advise. I am spending more days of of bed and am actually going for brisk walks every day. I do have bad days and fall sick.He will see me late or phonehelp,. Be grateful that we have drs like him willing to bulkbill so we can get medical help. All drug addicts find another dr he is not for you!

Negative experience: I had an appointment booked with Dr Chandrasena Tennakoon at 2:10. The receptionist told me that he was running 30 to 45 minutes late, but I could leave and she would call me when I was next. 20 minutes later I’ve got the call that I’m next and I’m back. While I’m waiting, I notice him taking a tea break and walking around with the medical student, so not even seeing any patients. At 2:50 he finally comes out and calls for another patient. I asked the receptionist what happened, because she said I was next and now he’s called someone else. She couldn’t give me a good explanation but said I was definitely next. After 10 more minutes, I asked her if she figured out what happened. She said the doctor said he didn’t know what happened. So he either deleted my appointment or ignored it. At 3:10 I finally got in and got no explanation or apology which was disappointing. When I described my symptoms, he said it was “difficult”, and in the end just went along with what I thought it was, even though I’m not a doctor or health practitioner. So I have no idea if the medication I’m on is correct or not. He recommended multiple different referrals and didn’t even print all of them. I left and had to come back and ask for him to please print the second referral form as he had failed to do so. He then printed one with the wrong persons name, and then had to ask who I was again. He came across as very frazzled, unprofessional and unknowledgable. It’s disappointing I never got an apology or explanation for why my appointment was deleted or ignored. I definitely won’t be recommending this clinic to anyone.

Negative experience: I'd been coming to this practise for a few years and this is the first bad experience but it was enough to put me off for good. I came in for an infected animal bite. I was given the wrong antibiotics and because of this, the infection spread and I had to spend 4 days in hospital. When I told the doctors at the hospital the medication I was on they were confused - the antibiotics I was prescribed aren't even for animal bites.

Negative experience: Ignored my medical problems and everything I said, tried to put me on new medication and argued with me about my current medication for 10 minutes until I asked "if my current medication isn't a preventative, what is it then?" And he responded with "I don't know what your current medication is, I'd have to look it up". Then wouldn't write me a medical certificate because I said I don't trust him prescribing me new pills if he's willing to argue when he doesn't even know what the pills are that I'm taking. AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Uninformed, unprofessional pill pushers.

Negative experience: Last time my family is coming to this clinic. Last appointment partner nearly waited 2 hours after original appointment time. Second appointment was an hour later! It is not professional at all… people have things to do and are busy…. is difficult to get to an appointment as it is. We called the reception on the phone to see if there was a delay and got told there was a 30min wait but then got told if I wasnt going to show up to my appointment on time then others would be seen before me. Then asked if i could turn it into a phone call appointment but was told a handful of excuses to not let it be a phone call. It is bloody ridiculous! Believe me if you’re on a tight schedule DO NOT book an appointment at this clinic. There were a number of people in the waiting room also frustrated and annoyed at the situation. A text/call needs to be sent if there is this much wait time. Once again it is bloody ridiculous and I am not sure how they’re a business.

Fantastic experience: I was in incredible pain from a UTI and upon calling the clinic, a lovely staff member from the front desk showed incredible sympathy and to me needing medical help and booked me in as a new patient despite having the day booked out. She found a cancellation and offered me the spot. I came in and waited a very brief amount of time before I was attended to by Sam who was professional, prompt and very helpful in even ordering a test to be done in case it was something more serious than a UTI. THANK YOU!

Negative experience: Would not recommended it. Had an appointement today, after being there for 20 min I asked at what time the doctor will take me in, as I booked this appointement at the time I have my break at work. 6 patients were still before me!! Meaning 15 min minimum for each patient so 1h30 minimum wait. Cannot believe the lack of professionalism from this cabinet. At least call or send a text or what a good idea it will be to tell people when they check in. Otherwise don't take bookings only walk-ins. Never seen that before!!!

Fantastic experience: I’ve been a patient of this clinic since 2005. I’ve not had one bad experience. Both Dr Tennakoon and Dr Perera are fantastic doctors and I would go to them anytime. They will really go out of their way to accomodate you and help you with whatever you’re dealing with. The nurses and receptionists are also very friendly and make you feel very welcomed. As a patient who’s been here for nearly 20 years, I would highly recommend this clinic to anyone. Both me and my family have been under these doctors care and are very happy with high standard of care they provide.

Fantastic experience: I would highly recommend this clinic to anybody. This is a practice made up of dedicated and caring receptionists, nurses and doctors. The staff will go above and beyond to attend to the requests of their patients and the doctors will go out of their way to ensure that their patients are taken care of. I have had first-hand experience of this and myself and my family have been a long-term patients of this clinic. We have not had one bad experience and every visit has been a pleasant one. Whenever we needed the additional assistance, the staff and doctors never failed to meet our needs. As a receptionist who has previously worked at other bulk billing clinics, I am amazed by the GPS here who do a phenomenal job of providing proper care to their patients instead of just rushing through appointments like I've seen at other places.

Negative experience: I parked in this surgery car park for approximately 90 seconds to collect my coffee from the coffee shop next door. I shouldn’t have done it, but I didn’t see the harm as it was approx 6.30am and the surgery doesn’t open until 8.30. The coffee was pre-ordered and paid for and I had to walk 5metres to collect it. The car park was near empty. Two older women, who were originally leaving the car park, and who allowed me to enter the car park before they left, parked me in so that I could not leave. One woman got out of the car and screamed at me that I was on camera and would be towed. The other woman then got out of the drivers seat to also tell me off, and both were in my personal space. It was incredibly intimidating to feel trapped like that, and to be met with such hostility from someone who clearly works at the surgery. I will not be seeking care for my family from this surgery. I won’t be parking there again. I don’t care if they tow my car, that’s a risk I am willing to take… but to be ambushed like that, and trapped like that is quite thuggish.

I am the owner of this clinic and I am so sorry that you had to face this terrible incident. I am certain that these two women are not related to our clinic( neither the staff or me ). Non of the staff turn up before 7.30 and would never behave like this.
Please provide me the date and the time so that I can go through video footage and provide you with more information.
Please talk to the coffee shop and see how friendly we are. We appreciate the community service of this coffee shop and its really good for our patients as well. we would never do something like this. We have been in this place for more than 3 years and it is shocking to hear about what happened.

Negative experience: The receptionist and staff are appalling. My partner and 1 year old were forced to wait 50 minutes for what should have been an 8am appointment. I should note this was only the second appointment for the morning. Once the doctor was ready to see my partner, he then pressured her into sitting down in the room despite my partner saying she did not want to as she was holding our son. The doctor again demanded her to sit, to which my partner politely refused, resulting in the doctor demanding my partner to leave. To top it off, the doctor thought it would also be appropriate to slam a door in both my partners and sons face. I would avoid this practice at all costs.

Negative experience: I booked in for a Telehealth at 4:15 for an important matter. I already knew waiting times can be long so I didn’t think I would get called on time. Now it is 5:30 still haven’t received a call and the clinic closes at 5pm. No way of calling to see what’s happening. And no call from anyone

Fantastic experience: First time I booked my appointment last minute I thought great, I can get my prescription today, 2 and half hours after my appointment time I wasn’t so great full. I thought maybe it was just a bad day and I’ll try them again but this time a Telehealth call, the doctor rings me at 11.10am for a 1.10pm appointment? I didn’t answer knowing it would not be them, 2 hours early, I ring at 1.40pm and was told they’re running late they’ll call shortly, 3pm I receive e a call from a male reception telling me I missed my appointment and to reschedule, I said no I did not, and he laughed and said, “I have the wrong number, oops sorry.” I call back and the same male answers the phone oh yes yes she’ll call you at 3pm, 3.25pm I call u 15 times today and you do not answer and Deny’s my script as it is too hard due to the amount and needs to be verified by the Medicare in Canberra, then fails to escript me on request, too hard again, and says pick it up from our office, and hangs up. Where is the consistency and care? This was a female doctor to a practise I would never return too again. After the owner and practise manager rang me the next day to apologise to me directly he fixed up my script and sent it to my phone, I'm glad they took accountability for the actions of other staff members.

Negative experience: One of the doctors told me they did not have enough time to provide a proper service because it was bulk billed. Then gave me a referral with no contact phone number and incorrect patient details. The doctor was also walking around the waiting area with other patients present talking to reception about forms needed for my medical condition which I sort of wanted kept private...

Negative experience: Hopeless. Walked in for our appointment with my wife, weren't even greeted with a hello just my wife's name was called out. Doctor asked what were we there for, wife said we just found out we're expecting. Absolutely no humanity about this doctor, no congrats, no smile, not a word, kept looking at their screen. Should've walked out. No professional care or interest in our needs, let alone no humanity. Pity, caus the receptionist was nice. If I could give this place no stars I would.

Fantastic experience: In a post pandemic world where doctors won't even see you face to face anymore when sick, these guys have been amazing at actually providing care. Im very greatful to have found the practice. Many doctors these days refuse to see even small children face to face if they are "symptomatic" despite having negtive covid tests. My one year old son has been here numerous times after being sick to get examined to ensure his lungs and ears are fine etc. The doctors and staff are so understanding and will always listen to my concerns and make sure they see my son and do the proper checks. We had in the past been turned away from multiple local clinics and only offered telehealth appointments to examine my sons condition. This to me is absurd and how small children end up in emergency rooms. I appreciate their common sense approach and am grateful to have found the practice.

Negative experience: Had an appointment booked at 9am, which was cancelled without my knowledge. Called at 430pm but their phones were set to after hours and saying they were closed, even though they close at 5. Rebooked my appointment for 920am. When I arrived to my appointment, the waiting room was extremely full. When it got to an hour of me waiting to be seen, I was told they were ‘running behind’, I do admit it is my responsibility to check signage about wait times which I failed to do, but the receptionist should also be informing patients about wait times. Their wait time was 10mins to 1hr, and I’d already been waiting an hour with no clear sign of being seen soon. I work in medical, and you don’t run 60+ mins over time without booking multiple people in at the same time with the same doctor. I value doctors time and always try to show up early or just on time, I don’t think this practice values their patients time at all. I do not have all day, to be waiting around for an hour + when I have other appointments and my own job to attend. Also the receptionist seemed flustered, definitely could benefit from having someone to help her, if there is that many patients being seen..

Negative experience: I booked a Telehealth appointment this morning which was scheduled for 2:50pm. By 4:00pm I had received no call so I phoned the surgery to ask for an explanation. The receptionist told me I’d receive a call by 5pm. They close at 4:30pm. When I phoned back at 5:15pm, they of course were closed and I did not receive an apology or rescheduling.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Chandrasena is an incredibly patient, empathetic and understanding doctor. Going to the doctor about reproductive health is already daunting enough, having to see a male doctor is so scary personally and you feel like you won't be understood or listened to. But as soon as I saw this Dr, he listened to everything I said and asked really good inquisitive questions, and really covered all bases and didn't just jump to the pregnancy idea. He helped me find the issue promptly and I'm so grateful a male doctor is so switched on with female reproductive health. Even better is its bulk billed.

1. Patients under the age of 18,
2. DVA, pensioner and other concession card holders.
But doctors bulk bill patients who have got financial hardship and if they request the doctor.
